Abstract

Earthquakes are among the most frequent and consequential natural hazards affecting the Chiang Mai region. This study evaluates potential earthquake induced damage across three intensity levels low, moderate, and high. Using the HAZUS analytical tool, the research assesses risks and expected damage to buildings and populations within the Mueang Chiang Mai district. Building damage is examined by both building use categories and structural system types, while the potential impact on human life is analyzed based on occupancy patterns at different times of day. The findings provide essential data for developing preparedness strategies, emergency response planning, and risk reduction measures aimed at minimizing loss of life and property in future seismic events.
