Abstract

Augmented Reality (AR) has emerged as a promising medium for enhancing architectural design by providing intuitive and immersive spatial visualization. However, current AR applications in the architectural field often depend on complex BIM integration or specialized devices, which limits accessibility for students, early-stage designers, and small practices. This research investigates a lightweight AR-based workflow that allows architectural models to be easily imported and visualized at real scale using mobile or tablet devices. The study aims to develop an accessible framework focused on clear model presentation, scale perception, spatial understanding, and efficient interaction, without requiring technical expertise or heavy computational tools. The proposed approach is expected to support early-stage design evaluation, improve communication between designers, clients, and stakeholders, and enable rapid visualization of design variations in real-world contexts. By exploring practical implementation strategies using commonly available AR technologies and game engines, this research seeks to demonstrate how AR can function as a flexible and practical design aid. The anticipated outcomes include a conceptual prototype, workflow guidelines, and an assessment of AR’s potential to broaden design exploration and strengthen decision-making processes in architectural practice.
